Two Airlifted to from Accident on Indiana State Road 37 and Dixie Highway

BEDFORD - MARCH 1, 2023 - Two persons was airlifted to trauma centers following a traffic accident on Indiana State Road 37 and Dixie Highway just before 3:30 pm. At this time there is unknown number of accident victims involved.


The accident being investigated by the Indiana State Police.


Both lanes of Indiana State Road 37 now have been opened as 5:49 pm.




One of the accident victims transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana and one transported to Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY by air ambulance with serious injuries.


The accident victims having to be extricated from their vehicles from members of the Bedford Fire Department and Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department.


Both lanes of Indiana State Road 37 had to be closed while the two air ambulances landed at the scene. At 5:30 pm the members of the Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department cleared the accident scene.

There is still major traffic congestion as the southbound lane is currently still closed by the Indiana State Police while the accident is being investigated.


The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, Bedford Fire Department, IU Lifeline ground ambulance, and Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. This is not a complete list of agencies who assisted at the scene at this time.


This would be two accidents that was investigated on Indiana State Road 37 within one hour of each. A second accident happened at 2:30 pm on Indiana State Road 60 and Indiana State Road 37 in Mitchell. At this time, there is not details on that accident.
